Penny was going to be culled (killed) because she cannot walk. She is a barred Olive Egger chicken. We took her when she was 15-weeks old in June of 2023, She has to be hand fed and her water held while she drinks. She is a gift from God.
Grace survived a cervical fracture when she was 3-weeks old. She was going to be culled because of "quality of life". We rehabbed. Her left wing hangs low from the injury. She gets tired more easily, but can be with the flock, however she sleeps in the house.
Rose, Joan and Esmerelda came to live at the sanctuary in September of 2023. They are 4-years old. They were living with a veterinarian and her husband, who could no longer take care of them because she was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer. Despite our efforts and vet visits, Esmerelda passed away in November of 2024.
Hope came to live with us in April of 2023. After an eye infection, she cannot see out of one eye and cannot see very well out of the other. She arrived with us not being able to see. Her friend Lucy, helps her when we are not helping.
Milo came to us in July 2022 with his brother Enzo. Roosters that would have been culled but live with us at the sanctuary.
